Election Day in Norfolk: Polls Open 6 A.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday — Bring ID, Know Your Precinct
Norfolk voters decide a U.S. Senate seat, Congress, local offices and three Virginia constitutional amendments on Nov. 3. The complete morning-of guide for the Mermaid City.

Norfolk's polling places open at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, and close at 7 p.m. Virginia's rule protects the punctual and the nearly punctual alike: if you are in line by 7 p.m., you will vote. On Election Day you vote at your assigned precinct — the Office of Elections mails and posts assignments, and the state Citizen Portal at elections.virginia.gov confirms yours from your address in seconds.
Bring identification, or bring your signature. Virginia asks every in-person voter for an acceptable ID — a state driver's license or DMV ID (expired is fine), a U.S. passport, military ID, photo student ID, government ID, or a current utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck showing your name and address. Without one, you may sign an ID Confirmation Statement at the polls and cast a regular ballot; the provisional ballot is the backstop, cured by delivering ID or a statement to the electoral board by noon on Friday, Nov. 6.
The ballot: one of Virginia's U.S. Senate seats, Norfolk's seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, city and local offices on this cycle, and three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution printed at the end. No state offices are on Virginia's 2026 ballot — those were settled in 2025. Early in-person voting ended Saturday, Oct. 31; a mail ballot still at home must be hand-delivered to the registrar or a designated drop-off by 7 p.m. Tuesday, or surrendered at your precinct so you can vote in person.
Norfolk specifics worth knowing: precincts in schools and recreation centers across the city — from Ocean View to South Norfolk's border neighborhoods — run on volunteer officers of election, many of them your neighbors; curbside voting is available at every precinct for voters 65 and older or with a disability; and same-day registration remains open in person through Election Day, with a provisional ballot while registration is confirmed.
The forecast for Tuesday is a normal November day in Hampton Roads; the forecast for turnout is in your hands. Polls 6 to 7. Bring ID. Vote the whole ballot — amendments included.
